How do Working Traits work?
This article explains what Working Traits are, why they are a fundamental part of urfuture's matching technology, how they are measured, and how they are used to connect candidates with careers and employers that best align with their natural behaviours, motivations, and working preferences.
What are Working Traits?
Working Traits are one of the core components of urfuture's behavioural matching technology. They describe how a person naturally prefers to work, rather than simply what qualifications or experience they have.
Traditional recruitment relies heavily on CVs, education, and previous experience. While these are useful, they don't explain whether someone will enjoy a role, perform well, or remain in the job long term.
Working Traits help fill that gap by measuring workplace behaviours, preferences, and motivations that influence success and job satisfaction.
Why do Working Traits matter?
At urfuture, we believe that people perform best when they work in environments that suit who they are.
For example:
- Someone who loves meeting new people may be better suited to Sales or Customer Service.
- Someone who prefers structure and routine may enjoy Administration or Finance.
- Someone who enjoys physical work may be happier in Construction or Manufacturing.
Rather than asking "What experience do you have?", Working Traits help answer:
- How do you naturally like to work?
- What type of environment suits you?
- What motivates you?
- What will keep you engaged in a role?
This creates more meaningful career recommendations and better hiring decisions.
How do Working Traits work?
Working Traits are generated when a candidate completes urfuture's Career Match assessment as part of creating their profile.
Through a series of scientifically designed questions, it measures over 60 behavioural and motivational data points across four key areas:
- Personality – How they naturally behave and interact with others.
- Hygiene Factors – The workplace conditions they need to be happy and productive.
- Extrinsic Motivators – External factors such as salary, progression and recognition.
- Intrinsic Motivators – Internal drivers such as purpose, creativity and helping others.
How can employers use Working Traits?
Working Traits give employers much richer insight than a traditional CV.
Within the urfuture platform, employers can:
- See individual Working Traits for every candidate.
- Filter candidates by specific traits.
- Build custom Job Matches based on the traits most important for a particular role.
This helps employers make more informed, data-led hiring decisions.
Can I edit working traits once the job has been posted?
No, you cannot change the working traits once a job has been posted as it has already calculated the matches for the role. If you want to change working traits, we suggest re posting the job with different working traits to see if this performs better and brings you mroe relevant candidates.
